320 people showed up for the 2007 festival and gave a resounding hand to six great films. The winner of this years contest was Justin Woods and Vince Franke with "Sponsor Me Jake".
Check the winning film out here.
New England Telemark and the Bowdoin College Outing Club presented the 5th Annual Telemark Film Festival. The festival was in two parts; a full length feature film “Since We Last Spoke” by film maker and well known tele athlete Josh Madsen and a ‘short film’ competition from which the audience choose a winner. The winner of the film comp took home $500 courtesy of Telemarktips.com. There was also be a huge gear raffle at the festival.
Here is a list and brief synopsis of the films;
Stanley Mitchell and the Little Yoho- by Randy Baker
Previous finalist Randy Baker, takes his camera to the Stanley Mitchell
Hut on the west side of the Canadian Rockies to film some big mountain
back country tele skiing. A backcountry adventure filmed with Randy’s
usual flair.
Sponsor Me Jake- By Justin Woods and Vince Franke
Skier Justin Woods, cameraman Vince Franke and faithful dog Mari show
the audience how to go about finding and skiing freshies at Stowe in
early October. You need kneepads just to watch this film.
Wasatch Waiters- by Miss Lindsay Ermidis
New to the competition this year is filmmaker and tele skier Lindsay
Ermidis. Lindsay found as she was filming in the Wasatch that all of
the skiers in the group were waiters. Thus the theme of this well crafted
film was born. Get ready for big mountain powder skiing. Skiers include
Highmus, P-man, Miss Lindsay, Bromka and Horn-y.
The Tele-Cube- by Jason Manders and Chris Marr
Once again the Hairy Donuts Gang have stretched the envelope in their
exploration of the outer limits of telemark films. Watchers beware
the fine print...the Telecube causes retardation in mice. Famed Pinhead
hunter Jason Manders will be present at the film festival.
Upslope- by Chris Nelson
This well crafted film from past finalist Chris Nelson features some
of Vermont’s finest tele skiers. As usual Chris and crew waited
for the biggest dumps of the season to film. Skiers include Evan Waldman,
Dave Bouchard and Ryland Mauck-Duff.
The Feature Film is “Since We Last Spoke” by Josh
Madsen and Lipstick Films.
While an entirely Telemark ski film is not new to the action-sports
scene, the way that Josh Madsen and Cody Smith envision the sport gives
a fresh perspective on where Telemark skiing is headed. This fast-paced,
action-packed movie will get any snow goer excited to see the first
flakes of the season fall. Josh will be present at this eastern premier
of his new film.
The telemark gear raffle included skis, bindings, lift tickets, ski clothing and much more from sponsors that include telemarkski.com, Flylow, backcountry.com, 22 Design, Sunday River, Sugarloaf, Bath Cycle and Ski, Aardvark Outfitters, Mahoosuc Mt. Sports, Black Diamond, Rossignol and more.
Our Feature Film was
Since We Last Spoke
A telemark film from Josh Madsen and Lipstick Films
“What made the filming of this movie a success was the dedication of up-and-coming Freeheel athletes that Lipstick had the pleasure of working with,” says Madsen. “They are athletes that are doing things out there that have never been captured on film before; they are the poster children for the New Freeheel movement.” Lipstick’s snapshot of the season brings together the ideas of old and new; it is a conglomeration of the best footage from the 2006 – 2007 ski season".
